As of April 26, 2026, the time to apply for engineering scholarships is getting very close for the 2026 Fall intake, especially for programmes in the UK and the US. The main Swedish “Global Professionals” cycle announced its winners on April 23. However, applications are still being accepted for several prestigious master’s waivers, PhD fellowships, and future talent awards.
Here are the most important funding opportunities for engineers that are currently available.
1. GREAT Scholarships for Engineering and Technology (UK)
A top programme in partnership with the British Council for postgraduate students from certain countries, such as Nigeria, China, Vietnam, and Mexico.
- The Award: At least £10,000 to £12,000 off tuition for a one-year Master’s degree.
- Status Right Now: Applications Are Open.
- The deadline is April 30, 2026, which is only four days away!
- Institutions that are currently involved:
- Brunel University London: Focus on the MSc in Renewable Energy and Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
- • The University of Southampton is open to all engineering fields for qualified residents.
- You must have a valid offer of admission and have passed the English language requirements (IELTS/TOEFL) by the deadline.
2. The Google PhD Fellowship Programme for 2026
For advanced engineering students and researchers who are interested in the intersection of computer science and high-tech engineering, such as robotics, quantum computing, and machine learning.
- The Award: It depends on where you live. In the US and Canada, it can be up to $85,000 a year, and in Europe and Africa, it can be up to 2–4 years of yearly bursaries.
- Status Right Now: Applications Are Open.
- The deadline is April 30, 2026, which is only four days away!
- Main topics: algorithms, systems and networking, human-computer interaction, and optimisation.
- Requirement: You must be a full-time PhD student. You need to write a research proposal, an essay about leadership, and letters of recommendation to apply.
3. IET Future Talent Awards (UK)
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) helps people in the area get accredited engineering degrees or apprenticeships.
- The prize is £1,500 a year for the length of the degree, which can be up to four years.
- Status Right Now: Applications Are Open.
- Due date: September 11, 2026.
- • To be eligible, you must be a UK resident who has overcome personal or financial problems.
- Your degree or apprenticeship must be recognised by the IET.
4. NL Scholarship (Netherlands)
For international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to get a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the Netherlands.
- The Prize: €5,000, €10,000, or €15,000 for the first year of study.
- Current Status: You can now apply for the 2026/27 school year.
- Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and the University of Twente are two technical universities that are taking part.
- The deadline is different for each university, but most are between May 1 and June 1, 2026.
- You must first apply to a Dutch research university to get in.
5. The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) offers scholarships to first-year students.
Specifically for female students who are starting their first year in an ABET-accredited engineering programme.
- • The award amount depends on the business that sponsors it, but it is usually between $1,000 and $15,000.
- Status Right Now: Applications Are Open.
- Due date: Early May 2026 (usually ends soon after April 30).
- Requirement: New freshmen must show that they are committed to diversity in STEM and send in their high school transcripts.
6. Important Strategy for Engineers in 2026
To get an engineering-specific grant this week, you need to put “Technical Precision” at the top of your list:
- The “Offer First” Rule: You can’t get a GREAT or NL scholarship unless the university gives you a conditional or unconditional offer. Do it today if you haven’t applied for the course yet. Some schools give qualified engineering candidates “offer letters” right away.
- Quantify Your Impact: General essays are not read in 2026. Use data for the Google PhD or SWE awards, like “Designed a circuit that cut power use by 12%” or “Developed a script that automated 30% of data processing”.
- Check for Accreditation: Make sure your programme is ABET (US) or IET/Washington Accord (UK/Global) accredited before you apply for specialised awards like the IET. A lot of merit grants can only be used for programmes that are accredited.
- Deadlines for English Proficiency: If you want to go to the UK or Canada, make sure your IELTS or TOEFL scores are ready by May 30, 2026. If you can’t show that you know how to speak the language by the beginning of June, many funding offers for 2026 will no longer be valid.
